County Champions!

Norwich Road Runner Marathon stalwarts Mark Betts and Tracey Curl claimed outright Norfolk County Marathon Champions for 2009, with fellow club member, Anne Millett winning the Ladies Age Index of Performance and Richard Blake of North Norfolk Beach Runners claiming the Men’s age graded title. The awards were presented on Sunday after the rescheduled New Years Day 10K race at Wymondham.

Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal age category winners were:

Senior Men

Mark Betts, Phil Quantrill (NNBR) & Simon Levy (Ryston Runners)

Senior Ladies

Rachael Leathwood & Rachel Fiddy both (NRR)

Men 40-49

Paul Sullivan, Goy Roper (both NRR) & Neil Sibley (Gt Yarmouth Road Runners)

Ladies 40-49

Tracey Curl (NRR), Annie Bradbury (Ryston) & Bobbie Sauerzappf (Bungay Black Dog)

Men 50-59

David Robinson (Ryston), Richard Blake (NNBR) & Peter Cook (NRR)

Ladies 50-59

Christine Thorne (NNBR), Anne Millett & Caroline Tayler (both NRR)

Men 60+

Jone Bone (GYRR), John England (GYDAC) & Maurice Copeland (NNBR)

Ladies 60+

Brenda Kinch (NNBR), Maureen England (GYDAC) & Daphne Hathaway (Coltishall Jaguars

The end of season awards for Pete Johnson’s Runners Centre Grand Prix series of 10 races held throughout Norfolk where Norwich Road Runners were again dominant, picking up some 20 top 3 placings for various Men’s & Ladies age groups.

First in Class went to Elies Mann, Anne Millett, Mark Betts, Paul Sullivan, Ray Lindsay & Kieron Haines could not be separated in the 50-54 age group and club ‘Grandad’ Colin Thouless.

Second in Class trophies were awarded to: Alex Smith, Sarah Bradley, Josh Brighty and Matt Frary.

Third places were picked up by: Michelle Bull, Genette Sullivan, Wendy Smith, Jill Copeland, Lynda Moore, Matt Howard, Michael Armes and Martin Yeomans.


Success in both championship capped a great athletics season for Norwich Road Runners who also scooped the Norwich Sports Award ‘Club of the Year’ earlier in 2009.
